Why Barrio? | Bend Oregon Restaurant
Why not Soupçancho? Or Sanchoçon or Taco Dude + Soup Guy? According to Wikipedia, Barrio has a lot of meanings and we’re about to add a few more.
We chose Barrio because Bend, Oregon is where it all began. Joel grew up in Bend and has traveled and learned food through Barrios in Africa and Mexico. Steven grew up in Redmond and Bend before moving to the Barrio Presidio in Tucson, AZ.
We chose to call our restaurant in Bend, Oregon Barrio because of our time spent behind two humble food carts, hustlin’ on the corner. During some of the worst economic times Bend had seen, we gained a loyal fan base that continues to grow.
We chose Barrio to represent the tough times and the better times: from schlepping food in freezing cold weather to winning a giant taco trophy (El Sancho, Arizona Taco Festival) and for being recognized as “Best Food Merger” in The Source Weekly (Thanks for the idea…). All of these trials have endeared us to many fans, followers and friends looking for good food in Bend, Oregon.
Finally, we chose Barrio because it just sounds good. ‘Bendbarrio’, ‘Barriobend’, ‘Let`s meet at the Barrio’. Here’s a couple more examples of how we think it might go:
“Where did you meet that [insert adjective and occupation] last night?” “In the Barrio.”
“Where should we eat downtown?” “At the Barrio restaurant in Bend.”
We are thrilled to be able to put this together for all the above reasons. We hope to be worthy of the hype and thank YOU for your continued support.
